The International String Quartet Competition “Premio Paolo Borciani” was created in 1987 by unanimous decision of the councillors of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and is dedicated to their famous fellow citizen Paolo Borciani, founder and first violin of the Quartetto Italiano.
The Premio has now become one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. It takes place every three years at Teatro Municipale Valli in Reggio Emilia, promoted and organised by Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia.
