DUE TO THE CORONA CRISIS, THE COMPETITION HAS BEEN POSPONED TO (14.-29.6.2021)

Repertoire: Don Giovanni, Carmen, Pagliacci, & Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle in original languages.

International jury of opera conductors and directors. Prizes feature numerous guest-conducting engagements with important houses. This 8th Edition will be held at State Opera Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. 

Round I tests up to 65 conductors conducting the entire company (chorus and vocal soloists on stage with orchestra and conductor in the pit) on Don Giovanni & Carmen. 26 conductors advance to Round II where Pagliacci and the Bartok are added. 8 conductors will advance to the final round where Bluebeard is the sole test opera. The 3-4 winners and Competition Prizes will be announced late on the evening of 28 June.

The Third and Second-prize winners will conduct arias from Don Giovanni, Carmen & Pagliacci in a Gala Concert and Awards Ceremony (29 June), with the First-prize winner conducting the Bartok. This, in addition to their multiple prize engagements (guest conducting).

Application Deadline: Open until 65 qualified conductors have applied, are accepted, and confirm their Competition Places with (refundable) deposits. No age limit.
