DUE TO THE CORONA CRISIS, THE COMPETITION HAS TO BE POSPONED TO NEXT YEAR (14.-27.6.2021)!

Repertoire: Don Giovanni, Carmen, Pagliacci, & Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle in original languages.

International jury of opera conductors and directors. Prizes feature multiple guest conducting engagements with important houses and orchestras. This 8th Edition returns to the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca, Romania were it begin in 2005.

Round I tests up to 52 conductors conducting the entire company (choir and vocal soloists on stage with orchestra and conductor in the pit) on Don Giovanni & Carmen. Up to 18 conductors advance to Round II where Pagliacci and the Bartok are added. 6 conductors advance to the final round where Bluebeard is the sole test opera.

The 3rd and 2nd prize winners will conduct arias from Don Giovanni, Carmen & Pagliacci in a Gala closing concert and awards ceremony (27 June), with the 1st prize winner conducting the Bartok. This in addition to the multiple prize engagements (guest conducting).
